Sera Wels-Chips

I went to my favourite aquarium store to buy plecomin for the Otos and AmanoShrimp that I will house in my new tank. Unfortunately they didn’t have it. They sold me Sera Wels chips instead.

Coming home I saw that it contained wood particles, which if great for my peckoltias, but Oto’s don’t need wood.

I wanted plecomin because it has Spirulina in it. The Wels chips don’t say what their contents are.

I’m not sure If he understood I wanted it for Otos.

I googled a bit and found that Otos do eat them too, and also found a site saying it contains cereals, fishmeal, spinach, lucerne, spirulina, marine algae, willow wood with bark, alder wood.

When I introduced the Otos to my tank yesterday I added a chip, this morning I found the chip in the back of the tank.

So it had been touched, but they obviously didn’t eat much of it.
They did have plenty of brown algae, so I’m still not sure. We’ll see if they do eat it eventually.

Manufacturers description:
Many of the impressive and popular loricariids (plecos, "L catfish") rasp of their food from wooden roots and the like. They also take up wood particles while doing so, which are important for their digestion.

Now there are sera Catfish Chips with particles of willow and alder wood especially for these magnificent aquarium fish. This new, delicious food specialty has a very compact structure and does not even fall apart after a longer time in the water. Therefore the fish are occupied with their food for a longer time, just as in nature. Even shy and hiding catfish are attracted into the visible areas by the irresistible taste.

Pros: They don’t fall apart, therefore they are ideal for fish who like to suck/scrape their food, and it doesn’t foul the water that way.
Cons: It doesn’t have ingriedent on the package, so I’m not sure how much spirulina or wood it contains.
